Finding Student Work Assigned to an Activity When It Disappears
Quick answer
In the large majority of cases the project exists and is still a draft. Pixton distinguishes between work a student has made and work a student has published, and the teacher’s activity view shows only the second. The student opens the draft and clicks Publish at the top right, and it appears. The other causes — wrong class, wrong activity, a second account — are all checkable in a minute.
Why this happens
Every Pixton project is a draft until the student publishes it. Pixton’s documentation describes the step exactly: open the Draft Project, click the Publish button at the top right. A student who works for a whole period and closes the laptop has a saved draft that they can see and you cannot. Nothing is lost; nothing has been submitted.
Teachers find activity work through a specific path: inside the classroom, the Activities tab, then the View Projects button. A project made outside the activity — from the student’s general project area, or in a different class — does not appear there, however finished it is.
Pixton also lets students set a published project back to draft at any time. A comic you saw yesterday can vanish from the submitted view today because the student re-opened it to fix a speech bubble.
Work through these in order
- Ask the student to open the project and check whether it says Draft. If so, they click Publish at the top right, and it appears in your view immediately. This resolves most cases.
- Confirm you are looking in the right place: inside the classroom, Activities tab, View Projects for that specific activity. Work created outside the activity is not listed there.
- Ask the student whether they started the comic from inside the activity or from their own project list. If the latter, it belongs to no activity. They can still publish it; you will find it in the class’s general projects rather than under the assignment.
- Check which class they are in if you teach more than one section. Projects belong to the class they were made in, and a student in two of your classes may have made it in the other.
- Ask whether they signed in through your class link or through Pixton.com directly. A student who searched for Pixton and signed up on the homepage has a separate Solo Student account, and any work on it is invisible from your class.
- If the project is a group collaboration, open the account of the student who created it rather than each participant’s.
- If it was there last week and is gone now, ask whether the student re-opened it. Setting a published project back to draft removes it from your view until it is published again.
Once you have found it: what you can do with it
From the View Projects screen, Pixton lets you open a student’s project and Grade it, Favorite it, mark it Viewed, set it back to Draft, Duplicate it, Delete it, change its Format, generate a Coloring version, add a Voiceover, or Download, Print or Share it. Marking projects Viewed as you go is the simplest way to keep track of what still needs attention across a full roster.
Making “missing work” stop happening
Three habits remove almost all of these tickets. Have students start every assignment from inside the activity, never from their general project list. Make Publish the spoken final step of every session, and check the View Projects screen before the class leaves. And share the exact join link so nobody ever creates a stray account on Pixton.com. None of this is a Pixton setting; all of it is routine.
If that did not solve it
If every student’s work is missing from an activity at once, the activity itself may have been created in a different class, or the assignment may not have been published to students. Check the activity before checking twenty-eight projects.
